Amway Global - Myth Busted - Dead or Broke By Age 65

Debunking another myth taught by upline. People aren't broke by age 65. In fact, all of the retirees I know all live quite comfortably, travel several times a year. enjoy golf and other activities. Uplines want people to believe they will struggle in their golden years and the convince you that the Amway opportunity is the only way to avoid it. Check out the facts for yourself!

Economics – More older people enjoy increased prosperity than any previous generation, with an increase in higher incomes and a decrease in the proportion of older people with low incomes and in poverty. However, major inequalities continue to exist for older blacks and for people without high school diplomas, who report smaller economic gains and fewer financial resources.

• Income generally rose between 1974 and 2006. The proportion of older people with incomes below the poverty line went from 15 percent to 9 percent; those categorized with low income dropped from 35 percent to 26 percent; those with high incomes increased from 18 percent to 29 percent.

• Median net worth for households headed by whites age 65 and older was six times that of older black households, although the gap has slightly narrowed since 2003.

• More older people, especially women, continued to work past age 55.

Joe where you may live this fact of yours might just be true although in my experience many people in my area went back to work or are living with less then they did before they retired. It is a sad thing to see but many just dont have enough and the ones who might have some are living like they did not for fear of being like the rest

But also Levi, I live in Hawaii where the cost of living is one of the highest in all of the US.

Try and try as they may to disregard the facts...

I know plenty of people who are retired and are living comfortably...some still work but they do so becuse they want to.

Are there broke old folks?? Sure there are....just like there are broke yong folks and broke middle aged folks.

But where it costs more to live jobs also pay more in most cases

The point is that Amway recruiters use this myth as a way to scare people about their financial futures, and then try to convince them that Amway is their best chance at success. But the facts indicate that Amway is more likely to hinder your financial future.

Mike said...

It is a scare tactic. What makes it work is that they are talking about the future..way in the future..

While I support the idea of planning ahead and looking toward what could happen.

No one knows WHAT will happen 25 or more years from now..

The interesting part of that quote is the "Dead...."part. What Amway teaches is not just "not being broke" but having way more than anyone needs to have, and what good will all that be if you are dead.

Most folks are happy with life, although some things could be better (this applies to everyone, the reality is that one can have everything one desires).

It is this "desire" that AMO's feed on, notice it is an Amway Motivational Organization and not ASO, Amway Sales Organization.

It is the purpose of the AMO to get the IBO motivated and at the same time they make a lot of money doing that.

There are two basic ways to motivate, the use of fear/pain or reward.

The use of the "Dead or Broke" is to instill doubt in the future, unless something is done..and that thing is Amway.

Most folks that have been involved in Amway, are already broke, mostly due to joining up.

Although there are people like me who dont do this for the dream of being rich but to simply pay our bills comfortably. Some of you may have high paying jobs or businesses and my hats off to you but my dead end job was getting me no where so i chose to supplement my income not to the point i am so rich but just to the point "I" not you can sleep at night.
and also there is a correct way to do this opportunity and more often than not people are doing it incorrectly hence the high failure rate.

Joecool said...

I will throw this out also. Is it possible that the Amway opportunity and the compensation plan is flawed?

John said...

well if what you need is a fault in the business i don't think you need to keep reaching. There are corrupt and bad people in this but there are bad people in anything just let me be clear on that. If what you want is a nail to pound on then drive it home but I will be here to redeem the rest of us who do this business with integrity and moral values and do respectfully apologize for the experience anyone has had due to our corrupted counterparts

Joecool said...

But Levi, the problem is that corrupt people in Amway are the norm and not the exception. That is the problem.

Gina said...

Levi, what is your problem with people who make more money, who may have had a comfortable up bringing, who may have gone to college ect? You seem to have some resentment towars those who didn't/don't suffer or struggle with life. Especially when they don't share your views on how great Amway is.

People can be successful and not be rich to begin with. They can be happy and poor, they can be miserable and rich, they can be poor yet law abiding and honest, they can be rich yet felons and liars...hard work is hardwork no matter your spot on the economic ladder, business practices are universal no matter economic standing, or even country for that matter.

Cost of living vary everywhere....pay is higher in some areas cause COL is higher, pay is lower where it is lower...and it is a mute point.

My problem with you Gina is most of the comments i have read of yours point fun at what you call misguided or brainwashed. You seem stuck up to anyone who tries an opportunity outside of the norm. If you really cared your words might show it but all I have seen is you pointing out how much people must be dumb or dense cause they dont see like you do. Dont give me your moral parade when I have not seen a thread where you have pointed out help in your illustrious carrer.

"My problem with you Gina is most of the comments i have read of yours point fun at what you call misguided or brainwashed."

No I poke fun at the stupid things IBO's say...things like "profit before expenses". And if IBO's don't want to be perceived as brainwashed then maybe they should actually try to be a little bit of that Independant that makes up the title IBO. You all say the same things over and over and over again...almost verbatim. That's being brainwashed...being a shee-ple if you will.

" You seem stuck up to anyone who tries an opportunity outside of the norm."

No, that's how you have chosen to see it because it makes it easier for you to disregard my message.

"If you really cared your words might show it"

Ah, but they do...you just don't like the words.

"but all I have seen is you pointing out how much people must be dumb or dense cause they don't see like you do."

If it waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck then I call it a duck. Its not an issue of seeing it like I do...but rather seeing it like everyone other than IBO's see. Thousands and thousands of businesses have achieved great success by the same basic business practices....why do IBO's really think their supposed method is better? Amway themselves follow the basics of business!!!!!

"Dont give me your moral parade when I have not seen a thread where you have pointed out help in your illustrious carrer."

LOL...moral parade??? First I have not paraded any morals anywhere. Second, felon's can not under any circumstances question or even debate someone else's morals. Third, I have offered plenty of help to those who have asked for it and for those who I deemed worthy of my time. I refuse to waste my time trying to help someone who doesn't want help....its very counterproductive.

You really don't have anything of substance to say, do you?

I wrote a blog post once, that IBOs are their own worst enemy.

Amway's biggest defender, IBOFB does a great job of making Amway and Amway IBOs look silly. Who denied that Quixtar = Amway? Who lied about tools profits? Who made up the fake claims about perfect water?

All of these issues are because of IBOs, not critics. Who tricks people into attending Amway meetings? Critics or IBOs?

John said...

yeah sure i am my own worst enemy, you and gina read alot but you sure dont take in anything outside your relm of belief. I dont like snob nosed richie rich pricks who think thier way is the only way. people have made this business sucessful and for you two to disregard that fact is just stupidity. you forget that for 50 years amway has operated and people have been joining left and right. it's obvious you two hate this fact so you try to trash talk all you can because this is the only place you can feel important. All this is a mute point but i don't post a hidden name, I stand out here ready and willing to mudsling with the two of you and I will be sure to stop in from time to time just to throw a bit more until i see you two run away.

"yeah sure i am my own worst enemy, you and gina read alot but you sure dont take in anything outside your relm of belief."

Since when is business and the basic practices of it are beliefs?

" I dont like snob nosed richie rich pricks who think thier way is the only way."

Ahhh, the sound of integrity. Do you ever get tired of making immature assumptions about people?

" people have made this business sucessful and for you two to disregard that fact is just stupidity."

No disregarding...we absolutely have said a few have been successful, its the methods, at the cost of others and at what which is at question.

" you forget that for 50 years amway has operated and people have been joining left and right."

No one has forgotten, on the contrary we are very aware and is actually one of the arguments to the problem. People have been joining left and right as you say, for 50 years but yet the number of IBO's is consistent and those who have experienced success are generally the same people, who have achieved that success years ago...new success seems to be fleeting in the US.

" it's obvious you two hate this fact so you try to trash talk all you can because this is the only place you can feel important."

All you do is assume it is trash talk because you can stand the idea that there maybe a darker side to what you have been taught is great and uplifting.

" All this is a mute point but i don't post a hidden name,"

Again an assumption.

" I stand out here ready and willing to mudsling with the two of you"

Hmmm "mudsling"??? Note... that word was used by the IBO....ya know that supposed honest guy full of integrity.?

"and I will be sure to stop in from time to time just to throw a bit more until i see you two run away."

Many an IBO have come and many have gone and the only running has been done by them. People don't run who speak the truth, but its not the case of those who have no truth to speak of.

John said...

do you get tired of snide comments?

whats the honesty and integrity got to do with standing up for what you belive? I could care less what you think are assumptions you two can call it whatever you want but at the end of the day no one is right. and your myth busted thread. yeah it is busted, the whole darn thing. I see people on the news in my community and everywhere i go that prove to me that your blog is false.

John said...

but looking at this budget outlook for a scenario family of 4 you did not bust anything.

Expenses: Rent/Mortgage $850.00 , Food $350.00 , Household Supplies $200.00,
Car Payment $250, Insurance (car) $100.00, Insurance (house if app.) $200.00,
Electricity $75.00, Natural Gas $75.00, Autmobile Gasoline $ 125.00, Cable $50.00,
Internet $50.00 , Healthcare/Dental Insurance $300.00, Misc Charges $200.00.

*also please note these expenses do not include many other things i have seen households put in thier budgets* such as a home security alarm, Lawn care fees, hobbies, and etc.

Totals: $2,825 per mo. $33,900 per yr.

Going by income being only minimum wage (what the majority of people make) here are wha people make:

At $7.25 per hr the employee makes $290.00 per wk. Before Taxes.
If Mom and Dad are both working that comes to: $580 per wk. Before Taxes
So multiply that into the 52 weeks in a year and you get:
With both parents working: $30,160 per yr. roughly $27,040.00 After Taxes.
A difference of $3740.00 per yr. an estimated $6860.00 After Taxes. thats $311.68 short every month Before Taxes an estimated $571.00 short per mo. After Taxes.

But if this famiy was above average and earned $12.00 per hr that might come to $44,720 for both workers After Taxes. that would leave a positive $900.00 balance in their account per mo.

In both equations niether leave any wiggle room for surprises or for pleasures. How would you save for retirement? Send the kids to college? take a vacation once a year? Buy presents at christmas or birthdays? or even worse fix the car when it breaks down? House Repairs (if you own your own home)?, personal needs as far as clothes or health? and many many more.

This is why I choose multi-level Marketing because it gives me the ability (if done right) to add to my income and give a bit of breathing room. I believe the average household needs at least $2500 on a regular basis in thier savings account for emergencies. and another $2500 to be invested into options for retirement. While on top of that maybe a little playing money say maybe $3000 per month. for a total of $8,000.00 per mo. extra.

And so this is my goal with networking and multi level companies, also I like to dabble in commodities and realestate giving me as many sources of income to do this. My squabble with jobs is just as its stated above, a job does not give me what i feel my family deserves to be comfortable, safe, secure, and happy.

Wait, so your reasoning for why Amway works is based on a family in a worst case scenario? How did you figure the costs for rent, household supplies, food, car payment, insurance ect? Why did you include rent AND home owners ins? (a lot of mortgages include that...along with taxes...its called escrow) And why would you go one to say that these calculations don't cover many other expenses such as lawn care (not needed in an apartment BTW) and alarm system? I find it hard to believe that a family where both parents are working at minimum wage are paying for things that that.

And if you want to make an extra $8k a month for various things above and beyond then good for you, but it is unfair to assume that every household needs to make that much in order to function or have fun. You are going out of your way to paint a very dark picture of what life is like and why MLM maybe the answer. It is misleading at best.

And before you snap back actually take the time to answer the questions I posed (they are valid)....THAT would be engaging in a discussion...try it....seriously.
